Preface It has been about 5 years since the publication of the HIV Protocols 2nd edition. Thus, when we were approached by John Walker asking us to compile a new edition, we were pleased to know that previous edition had been quite popular both in print and in terms of online downloads. During the intervening years, there has been a considerable advance in the methods employed in HIV research—especially those pertaining to virology.
