Foreword
I am pleased to write a foreword to Dr. Amar Mukund’s book Basics of Hepatobiliary Interventions. Dr. Mukund who has been one of the pioneers in this subspecialty has been instrumental in establishing a robust protocol-based interventional management in liver diseases and portal hypertension, and I have been keenly observing his meteoric growth for over 10 years. He was key to establishing one of the most academic and vibrant departments at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS). Interventional radiology has been one of the most dynamic, fascinating, and upcoming branch of medicine. Hepatobiliary interventions being a further superspecialized subdivision of interventional radiology provide a minimally invasive and intricate treatment option to patients with liver diseases. There has been an increasing need for skilled interventional radiologists in the management of sick patients before and after the organ transplant. Apart from having extremely sophisticated skills for successful procedure performance, it requires a deep understanding of the disease itself.
