The International Organization on Shape Memory and Superelastic Technologies is pleased to announce that two of its members have joined the 2020 Class of Fellows. ASM International established the honor of Fellow of ASM in 1969 to provide recognition to members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering and to develop a broad-based forum of technical and professional leaders to serve as advisors to the Society. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the traditional inperson awards ceremony will not be held this year. Mr. Luis R. Leon, FASM, Associate Technical Fellow Metallurgical, Propulsion Applications at The Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington is awarded the honor for
Dr. Virginia Osterman
being ‘‘a materials technology expert and mentor who pioneered utilization of advanced materials and processes to improve the performance of high temperature commercial aircraft propulsion support systems.’’ Dr. Virginia Osterman, FASM, Corporate Chemist at Solar Atmosphere, Inc. in Souderton, Pennsylvania receives the honor ‘‘for significant technical and educational contributions specific to vacuum heat treating processes, including use of vacuum furnaces for the embrittlement of titanium, tantalum and other refractory metals for powder production.’’ Publisher’s Note Springer Nature remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in published maps and institutional affiliations.
