Preface
I have been very honored by Professor Vivian Lara Silva’s invitation to preface her book “Social Drivers In Food Technology,” edited by Springer. I have followed Prof Silva’s career since she joined FZEA-USP as a Lecturer, when I was Head of her Department, and Vice- and Director (Dean) of the Faculty, but above all, as her colleague, a colleague who saw, from the beginning, the importance of her arrival at FZEA. Since then, I have been sure that she would contribute to making the Food Engineering course at FZEA different from other similar courses in Brazil. She has been responsible for the undergraduate courses on “Food Distribution” and “Agro-Industrial Management” for the Food Engineering students. In the first course, she teaches, among others, concepts of supply chain and logistics, a novelty in Food Engineering courses in Brazil. In the second course, she addresses the concepts of industrial management, but with a more important human vision, as discussed in this book. I believed that, with her vision of an Agro-Industrial Production Engineer, she was perfectly able to add something more than merely the training of our Food Engineers. In addition to th
