Foreword
This volume is the third collaboration between the Australian Teacher Education Association (ATEA) and Springer published to coincide with ATEA’s annual conference. This volume is particularly notable because it includes contributions from New Zealand, marking the inaugural joint conference of ATEA and the Teacher Education Forum of Aotearoa New Zealand (TEFANZ) in July 2018. The theme of the 2018 conference is ‘Teacher Education In and For Uncertain Times.’ Arguably, teacher education has never enjoyed particularly certain times regarding its policy and practice frameworks in Australia and New Zealand. However, as this book goes to press, policy shifts in both Australia and New Zealand continue to promise ‘interesting’ times ahead. The Australian federal government has just announced cuts of over $2 billion to the university sector, and the New Zealand government has just resolved to discontinue its program of national standards for the reporting of school student progress.
