TT I " I E R E T O F O R E , n u m e r o u s s t u d i e s h a v e been made concerning cold r o l l e d 3 pet S i - F e crystals initially n e a r (001)[100] o r i e n t a t i o n a n d i t s r e c r y s t a l l i z a t i o n t e x t u r e s ) ' 2 W a l t e r a n d K o c h o b s e r v e d by t r a n s m i s s i o n electron microscopy t h e cold r o l l e d textures and rec r y s t a l l i z a t i o n b e h a v i o r o f (001)[100] o r i e n t e d h i g h p u r ity 3 p c t S i - F e c r y s t a l s . D u n na r e p o r t e d that c r y s t a l s r o t a t i n g t o t h e (001)[100] s t a b l e e n d o r i e n t a t i o n r e c r y s t a l l i z e d s l o w l y to c o a r s e g r a i n s h a v i n g s e v e r a l p r e f e r r e d o r i e n t a t i o n s o r c o m p o n e n t s . However, n o study w a s m a d e c o n c e r n i n g t h e d e v e l o p m e n t of p r i m a r y a n d s e c o n d a r y r e c r y s t a l l i z a t i o n t e x t u r e i n the p r e s e n c e of s e c o n d p h a s e p a r t i c l e s to r e s t r a i n n o r m a l g r a i n g r o w t h . W e h a v e a l r e a d y d i s c l o s e d t h e e f f e c t s of A1N o n t h e s e c o n d a r y r e c r y s t a l l i z a t i o n t e x t u r e s o f 3 pct S i - F e s i n g l e c r y s t a l s i n i t i a l l y (001)[100] o r i e n t e d : F u r t h e r m o r e , t h e p r e s e n t a u t h o r s i n t e n d e d t o a s c e r t a i n t h e e f f e c t s of A1N ( f i r s t l y ) on t h e s e c o n d a r y r e c r y s t a l l i z a t i o n t e x t u r e s , and (secondly) on the p r i m a r y recrystallization textures i n the c r o s s r o l l e d c r y s t a l s h a v i n g (O01)[hkl] o r i e n t a tion.
w e r e t h e n s u b j e c t e d to p r e h e a t t r e a t m e n t s in o r d e r to c h a n g e s i z e a n d d i s t r i b u t i o n o f A1N. T a b l e I s u m m a r izes t h e conditions o f preheat t r e a t m e n t s a n d t h e c h e m ical analysis after t r e a t m e n t . T h e s e starting c r y s t a l s were cold r o l l e d with a red u c t i o n of 50 p c t i n t h e d i r e c t i o n o f 0 a n d 45 d e g f r o m t h e [100] d i r e c t i o n , a n d t h e n a g a i n r o l l e d w i t h a r e d u c t i o n of 50 p c t a t r i g h t a n g l e t h e r e t o , i . e . , s u b j e c t e d t o c r o s s r o l l i n g w i t h a r e d u c t i o n of 50 by 50 ( = 7 5 ) p c t . T h e s e c o l d r o l l e d c r y s t a l s w e r e h e a t e d a t the r a t e o f 1 0 0 ° C p e r h r , a n n e a l e d a t 1200°C f o r 20 h r a n d c o o l e d a t t h e r a t e o f 100°C p e r h r . T h e g a s u s e d w a s c r a c k e d a m m o n i a in h e a t i n g a n d h y d r o g e n i n h o l d i n g a n d c o o l i n g . T h e t e x t u r e w a s d e t e r m i n e d by t r a n s m i s s i o n X - r a y method u s i n g M o - K a radiation and optical goniometer.
