Foreword The introduction of a generally applicable minimum wage in Germany was accompanied by a vigorous academic and public debate. While the majority of the general public welcomed the reform, considerable concerns were brought forward by the academic community. The concerns focused primarily on direct effects on the realm of employment. The discussion of indirect effects only amounted for a small part of the overall debate, even though these effects can be substantial.
