Biocompatible Hot-Melt Adhesive Closes Severe Wounds

The system consists of a type of 'hot-glue gun' combined with a skin-friendly hot-melt adhesive. The innovation is that the adhesive remains flexible during the healing process and decomposes without residue within a few weeks. The innovative hot-melt adhesive – a biocompatible, biodegradable, and elastic polycaprolactone-based polymer – melts at a temperature just above body temperature and can therefore be easily applied without causing burns. In order to achieve the required mechanical properties, durability, and tissue compatibility, the scientists experimented with the material’s physical structure. The chemical properties remained unchanged.

Speeding up the healing process The polymer melts at minimal pressure and can be applied directly to the wound using a special medical glue gun, after which it quickly hardens and bonds firmly to the edges of the wound. The special feature is that the bonded tissue remains flexible during the entire healing process. After a few weeks, the biocompatible adhesive completely decomposes. What is more,

In most cases, serious injuries to the skin are still treated with pins and stitches. Researchers at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology have developed a medical hot-glue system that can be used to close such wounds in the future, while at the same time speeding up the healing process.

Severe wounds might be treated with a “hot-glue gun” in the future.

the material is four times stronger than existing adhesives used for this purpose. The biocompatibility of the adhesive system has already been confirmed in laboratory tests. In the future, its use might therefore reduce the use of stitches and staples, speed up the healing process, and reduce scarring. // For more information, please visit: www.technion.ac.il/ en/2019/06/hot-glue-gun-for-advanced-healing

Bodo Möller Enters into Aerospace Cooperation with Henkel For safe operation, modern airplane structures need high-quality, resilient adhesive solutions. With immediate effect, the Bodo Möller Chemie Group will be authorized to distribute Henkel’s aerospace products as well as to provide professional advice, especially for the two brands 'Loctite Aero' and 'Bonderit Aero'.

These product lines are primarily used in airplane production and maintenance. The portfolio includes film and paste adhesives, mold release agents, primers, release agents, connecting materials, and core fillers for honeycomb core structures. For the surface treatment of metal parts, the company also offers products for selective abrasion (chemical etching and milling), cleaners, and paint and varnish removers. “Like the automotive sector, the aviation industry needs a huge amount of knowhow to ensure that it can maintain the speed of innovation. In this case, our glob4
