Red man syndrome: case report A 60-year-old man, who had undergone cataract surgery, was moved to a post-operative ICU where he received prophylactic IV vancomycin 1g as a 1-hour infusion every 12 hours. As soon as he received the first dose of vancomycin, he experienced chest pain and dyspnoea and ’he was about to collapse’. His BP decreased to 80/50mm Hg and his pulse was 50 beats/min and feeble. Vancomycin was stopped immediately and he received diphenhydramine and IV fluids. He subsequently recovered. Vinay M, et al. Vancomycin induced redman syndrome: A case report.
