This study was inspired by my time working in publishing. I became interested to find out how the role I worked in had developed, how processes became standard practices and why the publishing industry operated the way it did. My interest in the subject became the research project for my Ph.D., which was a rewarding, challenging, sometimes frustrating yet illuminating experience. My aim from the outset was to publish my research as a book. To be a scholar of the publishing industry I wanted to join the individuals I had researched, and I am thankful to have achieved my goal to see my research in print and to be considered as an author!
