Abstract Purpose  Abnormal increases in muscle tone can be caused by various musculoskeletal disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate intratester and intertester reliabilities in measuring the stiffness of the shoulder muscles using strain ultrasound elastography (USE) and an acoustic coupler. Method  Tissue stiffness was measured in the trapezius muscle and in the supraspinatus muscle of healthy young volunteers.
