Abstract—The lime seed bug Oxycarenus lavaterae was observed in great numbers on large-leaved linden trees Tilia platyphyllos Scop. in Krasnodar in the spring of 2020. This is the first record of this species from Russia, indicating eastward extension of O. lavaterae. The first data on the phenology and biology of the species in the North Caucasus, and also some characteristics of this invasive population are reported. The lime seed bug Oxycarenus lavaterae (Fabricius, 1787) (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) is a West Mediterranean species widely distributed in Europe and North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia). At the same time, its records from the tropical part of Africa (Sierra Leone, Ethiopia), South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen (Péricart, 1998, 2001; Rabitsch and Adlbauer, 2001) were apparently based on misidentifications (Kment et al., 2006).

nia (Kment, 2009), and the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast (Kalushkov, 2000; Kalushkov et al., 2007a, 2007b; Kment, 2009; Simov et al., 2012). In 2017 the species was recorded in Istanbul, in the southwest of Turkey (Arslangündoğdu et al., 2018). Besides, Rabitsch (2008), based on his communication with V. Rinne, mentioned the finding of O. lavaterae indoors in Finland in 2003. However, other researchers (Kment, 2009; Rintala and Rinne, 2011) doubted the possibility of this bug spreading so far north. The species has not been found in Belarus, Moldova, and until recently in Russia. A map showing the history of O. lavaterae spreading over Europe was recently published by Arslangündoğdu and coauthors (2018).

Before the 1980s, O. lavaterae was not known in Europe to the north of central France and southern Switzerland, and to the east of Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Péricart, 1998). At the end of the XX century there were numerous reports indicating its northward (to Central Europe) and eastward range expansion. In particular, the species was recorded in Hungary, Serbia, Romania, and Bulgaria (Velimirovic et al., 1992; Kondorosy, 1995; Bianchi and Stehlik, 1999; Kalushkov, 2000; Rabitsch and Adlbauer, 2001; Protić and Stojanović, 2001; Deckert, 2004; Wermelinger et al., 2005; Kment et al., 2006; Rabitsch, 2008, 2010; Kment, 2009). By now, O. lavaterae has spread to the northeast and east as far as central Poland (Hebda and Olbrycht, 2016; Kuźmiński and Mazur, 2019), southwestern Roma-
