Cold spraying, since its development in the 1980s, has expanded to become a global solid-state coating and 3D powder consolidation process. Due to the mechanisms involved in plastic deformation of high-speed particles, the cold spraying process has been restricted to the fabrication of metal or metal alloy deposits. To date, the process has advanced, not only into high-pressure deposition of exotic, hard powder feedstock materials, but also into the fabrication of metal matrix composite coatings that include reinforcing ceramic or cermet phases. The commercial implementation of cold spray technology has grown tremendously in various industry sectors, including innovative solutions for aerospace, biomedical, automotive, energy, and safe nuclear technologies. This special issue contains the most recent advances in cold spray technology, including deposition of novel polymer materials, fabrication of metal matrix composite coatings, application for corrosion protection, additive manufacturing by cold spraying, and fundamental scientific investigations on cold-sprayed coating properties and the cold spray process. The Guest Editors would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the reviewers who provided invaluable feedback and to the authors who submitted manuscripts.
