Preface

The idea for this monograph came in 2019 when Iris proposed canvasing national sharing economy associations for case studies, to illustrate how the sharing economy is shaping the organization of economic activities in different jurisdictions. We began by contacting associations in Asia. Later we looked at including North American and European ones. We were able to secure contributions from China, Ireland, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Malaysia, and the United States, in addition to case studies from our own countries, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia. In total, this monograph presents over 40 case studies from 24 cities and towns. The cases illustrate differences in how the sharing economy is perceived, as well as how it is implemented. Readers will find in these case studies new opportunities for sharing as a mode for organizing economic activities in their own cities. While we are hoping that there will be regular new editions of this monograph, with an expanded number of sharing economy associations joining with case studies from new cities, we can achieve the same only with the help of tho
