Electronic procurement has been my passion ever since I started my academic career at Indiana University in 2000. It was a time when the Internet was beginning to become mainstream, also making inroads in the business- to-business context. It promised a great wealth of advantages, while at the same time still being poised with significant challenges. It was through a set of intriguing case studies of early adopters of this technology that led me to pursue this stream of research since then. I am indebted to my doctoral advisor, Professor Vincent A. Mabert, who took me on these case studies and mentored me in my dissertation and beyond. As part of these case studies we visited organizations and interviewed supply management professionals that had firsthand experiences with electronic procurement tools.
