Preface
Politics is beautiful. It represents human beings’ attempt to organise their life together, according to a principle of order and harmony. This was the conviction that triggered my desire to produce a book that, I hope, can provide the conceptual and theoretical tools to understand its dynamics and developments. The aim of this work is to meet the research and educational needs of the numerous graduate students and scholars who want to study politics in a sociological and transdisciplinary perspective. At the same time, the idea is to offer a professional tool for those researchers who are beginning to study one of the different topics concerning a sociological approach to the analysis of political processes. So, it is not a real textbook, but rather a working tool for social and political science scholars. We are now living in an era of generalised crisis of politics in its modern configuration. The dynamics of globalisation and financialisation of the economy have distorted the parameters around which the traditional power asymmetries have been structured over the centuries.
