Increasingly, space-faring nations have to deal with a wide range of security challenges threatening the sustainable operation of space activities. In this sense, security in outer space is of growing importance not only for operators but also for public and private entities using space-based data and services for their operations. This increasingly challenging security situation has been acknowledged by the global community at large, recognising that space security can only be achieved as the outcome of a global effort. The European Union upholds “the protection and resilience of critical European space infrastructure” as a flagship objective of the Space Strategy for Europe and stresses the
