Zoledronic acid Unilateral anterior uveitis in an elderly patient: case report A 78-year-old man, who had a history of prostate cancer diagnosed in August 2004 and was receiving cyproterone and goserelin, developed low back pain in January 2005. His pain increased and metastatic bone localisation was identified on lumbar MRI. He received an IV zoledronic acid 4mg infusion in normal saline over 15 minutes. After 48 hours, he developed right-eye pain with decreased visual acuity and conjunctival hyperaemia. Unilateral fibrinous anterior uveitis of moderate severity was diagnosed after 3 days. He received topical prednisone eye drops and recovered over several weeks. Zoledronic acid was replaced by pamidronic acid, without any recurrence. Author comment: "The overall intrinsic imputability score (I4) strongly suggests the involvement of zoledronic acid. . . the extrinsic imputability score (B2) also suggests the involvement of zoledronic acid."
