Foreword
The task of contemporary scholarship in the area of human development is becoming increasingly complex on two counts. First, the analyses of developmental phenomena are being enriched by contextualizing them in disparate cultural traditions. Second, the real-time context of human development is undergoing phases of rapid change at macro- as well as micro levels. In particular, the revolutions in areas of information, communication, travel, and medicine are transforming the contour and texture of our lives in dramatic ways. The spatial and temporal aspects of life are being reconfigured. As a consequence, the style and substance of human engagement is changing the pattern of movement across various stages in the life span. The prevailing situation is posing peculiar stresses and uncertainties, causing unique challenges of adaptation.
