This book is primarily an ethnographic study of HIV/AIDS work in Pakistan at the level of government and NGOs. I will be forever indebted to those people in Pakistan who so generously allowed me to work alongside them, especially at the National AIDS Control Programme, and to all of those who shared their thoughts with me in interviews. I may not always have represented their stories in the ways that they had hoped, but I have tried to represent their situations with balance and fairness and to protect their identities as individuals.
