Preface
Regression analysis, as a part of statistics and econometrics, constitutes one of the most commonly applied quantitative analytical tool in economics and business. It serves various purposes, from simple inferring about directions and strengths of relationships between economic variables to simulating and forecasting the future. However, it is often abused, either by being applied in areas which by their nature are “immune” to statistical modeling (where obtaining reliable statistical findings or forecasts is often impossible, even though elegant regression models may be built) or by being applied without adequate care devoted to possible traps (e.g., structural changes occurring within modeled relationships or a presence of multivariate outliers). In this book, we focus on single-equation linear regression models, which seem to constitute the most commonly applied tool of econometric analysis. Our main purpose was to offer a book which is strongly biased toward practical business applications and which is understandable for all t
