Acute interstitial nephritis and acute kidney injury: case report In a retrospective study of 75 patients, who were diagnosed with acute interstitial nephritis at Monash Health and Austin Health, Australia between January 2011 and December 2017, a patient [sex and age not stated] was described, who developed acute interstitial nephritis and acute kidney injury during treatment with benzylpenicillin [dosage, route, indication and duration of treatment to reactions onsets not stated]. The patient was treated with benzylpenicillin. Subsequently, the patient’s serum creatinine level increased. A kidney biopsy confirmed the diagnosis as benzylpenicillin-induced acute interstitial nephritis, which led to acute kidney injury. The patient’s renal function recovered within a year.
