Fixed drug eruption: case report A 28-year-old man with joint pains received celecoxib and developed a multifocal fixed drug eruption. The man presented with multiple round erythematous patches scattered over his trunk and limbs, associated with pruritus and a burning sensation. Some lesions had central necrosis and blistering with haemorrhagic fluid. The lesions appeared 2 hours after the initial ingestion of celecoxib 200mg. He had previously taken NSAIDs, but not COX-2 inhibitors, without any adverse effects. Multifocal fixed drug eruption was suspected, based on clinical findings and temporal association with celecoxib intake. Histopathologic features were consistent with fixed drug eruption. Celecoxib was withdrawn, and the man was treated with antihistaminics and steroids. After 3 weeks, his lesions had subsided, leaving hyperpigmentation. One month after lesion resolution, oral provocation was undertaken with celecoxib 50mg. Lesion reactivation occurred within 24 hours, before subsiding after 2 weeks with steroid treatment. He had residual postinflammatory hyperpigmention. Author comment: "We hereby report a case of multifocal fixed drug eruption (FDE) with celecoxib". Chugh S, et al.
