patients with vascular risk factors. Their quantification in peripheral blood is a reproducible method of assessing endothelial dysfunction.
Circulating Endothelial Progenitor Cells Definition This term is used to describe a cell population that can be isolated from circulating mononuclear cells, bone marrow, and cord blood. These cells showed expression of various endothelial markers, they have the ability to mature into endothelial cells and have a physiological role in the repair of endothelial lesions. Experimentally, when these cells are injected into animal models with ischemia, they are rapidly incorporated into sites of neovascularization. The levels of circulating endothelial progenitor cells correlate inversely with the degree of endothelial dysfunction in humans at various degrees of cardiovascular risk.
CIS ▶ Clinically Isolated Syndromes
Clan Definition A group of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who share membership of a common language and/or clan or tribal group.
CLASP ▶ Cardiovascular Limitations and Symptoms Profile
Classical Test Theory Synonyms Traditional Psychometric Model; Classical Measurement Model Definition Model of measurement that assumes that items are of broadly similar difficulty, and they are similarly good representatives of the latent construct. Therefore, the more items in a scale, the better the measurement of the latent construct. Items have their response categories to reflect severity or degree of response level. The level on the latent traits results from the direct sum of the responses given to the items.
Classification of Systemic Sclerosis Definition Systemic sclerosis patients are classified according to the extent of skin involvement: limited systemic sclerosis, with no detectable skin involvement (these patients present with Raynaud’s phenomenon and typical capillaroscopic abnormalities and/or systemic sclerosis specific autoantibodies); limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis, with skin involvement essentially limited to the hands and face and diffuse systemic sclerosis, with proximal skin involvement.
CLI ▶ Critical Limb Ischaemia
Climacteric Synonyms Menopause
