REPORT

Over the years, the Journal of International Relations and Development (JIRD) has established a tradition of inviting guest editors to organize special issues or journal sections. These issues have covered different fields and methodologies, ranging from previous EU enlargements and further integration, foreign direct investment and innovation policy, to peacekeeping, development theory and constructivist theories of international relations. With this special issue, managed by both the old and new editorial teams, the JIRD is continuing this tradition and also invites potential guest editors to submit their proposals for special issues or journal sections. As in the past, we want to encompass a wide variety of approaches and/or fields in International Relations (IR) and International Political Economy (IPE). Similar to ‘normal’ articles, the JIRD can initiate the referee process once the package of finalized manuscripts is submitted. The theme of this special issue lies at the important interface of historical sociology, IR and IPE. Here, for the first time, the Amsterdam Project of International Political Economy takes stock of previous research and future paths. We are confident that it will help introduce one of the most original European research programmes to a wider audience. For making this possible, our gratitude goes to Bastiaan van Apeldoorn. Caught in the crossfire of the varying demands and expectations of authors, referees and the old and new editorial teams at the JIRD, he nevertheless kept the project on course to ensure it reached its final destination.
