Hyponatraemia and suicide: 5 case reports In a multicenter, non-interventional, prospective and observational study (Zebinix Effects in DEpendency of BAseline Conditions; ZEDEBAC study) involving 237 patients, five patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed hyponatraemia (n=4) or died after suicide attempt (n=1) in the setting of eslicarbazepine acetate for partial-onset seizures [dosages, routes and durations of treatments to reactions onsets not stated]. The patients with partial-onset seizures, started receiving eslicarbazepine acetate [Zebinix]. One of the 5 patients had been concomitantly receiving other medications. However, the patients developed hyponatraemia (4 patients) or died after suicide attempt (1 patient). Among the 4 paients having hyponatraemia, eslicarbazepine acetate was discontinued in two patients, 1 patient was hospitalised and 1 patient received symptomatic treatment; all these patients recovered. The fifth patient accomplished suicide, which was considered as related to eslicarbazepine acetate. Author comment: "Hyponatremia was reported as ADR [to eslicarbazepine acetate ]." "The fifth death was the suicide that was considered to be possibly related to [eslicarbazepine acetate] therapy". Weissinger F, et al.
