Neutropenia: case report A 29-year-old man developed neutropenia during treatment with ferrous fumarate for iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). The man was referred to the haematology clinic and diagnosed with IDA secondary to malabsorption post-gastric surgery. Therefore, he started receiving iron replacement with oral ferrous fumarate 200mg twice daily. Two months later, repeated blood workup showed improvement in haemoglobin, platelets and mean corpuscular volume. However, he developed ferrous fumarate-induced neutropenia [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. One month later, neutropenia had recovered spontaneously. Kloub MN, et al.
