ABSTRACT In order to grow large single crystals of the La2 _xSrxCuOy and Bi2 +xSr 2 _zCuOy families of high Tc superconductors, we have studied the relationships between nominal Sr composition in the starting materials and the Sr compositions of the resulting products. We present growth, x-ray, and composition data for these samples. La-Sr-Cu-O SYSTEM Guided by the work of Hidaka et al. 1, we prepared a series of melts of the form 20 mol% (La 2 _XSrxCuOy) + 80 mol% CuO with 0.05_•x_
