The sulfide b i n a r y (CaS-MnS), like the s e l e n i d e b i n a r y (CaSe-MnSe), p o s s e s s e s full m i s c i b i l i t y i m m e d i a t e l y below the s o l i d u s . 1 A m i s c i b i l i t y gap f o r m s at lower t e m p e r a t u r e s in each s y s t e m . E a c h of t h e s e b i n a r i e s p o s s e s s e s a m i n i m u m in the liquidus in lieu of a e u t e c t i c . The MnS-MnSe b i n a r y 2 also has a m i n i m u m in the liquidus. However, it does not p o s s e s s a solid m i s c i b i l i t y gap. The CaS-CaSe s y s t e m is fully m i s c i b l e at both 1000~ and 1500~ It has not r e c e i v e d d e t a i l e d attention at t e m p e r a t u r e s approaching the s o l i d u s and liquidus.
