Olanzapine Allergic contact dermatitis following occupational exposure: 2 case reports Two men developed allergic contact dermatitis following occupational exposure to olanzapine [frequency and duration of exposure not stated]. Both of the men were employed as drug dispensers and mixers in a pharmaceutical manufacturing company producing olanzapine and usually wore personal protective equipment. The first man, aged 51 years, presented with an 11-month history of severe facial eczema. He reported that, in his job, he walked through a freeze tunnel without protective equipment and that he may have been exposed to chemicals. Patch tests exhibited a ++ reaction to olanzapine at D2 and D4. His symptoms improved after being removed from the dispensing/ mixing process. The second man [age not stated] presented with a 20-month history of fluctuating dermatitis affecting his eyelids, neck and hands. He reported that he had changed bags containing raw materials without wearing personal protective equipment. Patch tests to crushed olanzapine tablet and olanzapine powder 0.1% petrolatum showed ++ reactions at D2 and D4. [Patient outcome not stated.] Walsh M, et al.
