Liver failure in an elderly patient: case report An 88-year-old woman presented with non specific abdominal symptoms following an episode of vomiting. Additionally, she reported nausea and appetite loss. She had been receiving paracetamol [route, dosage and duration of therapy not stated] as needed for osteoarthritis. On examination, she had mild epigastric tenderness to deep palpation. Laboratory tests revealed elevated transaminases and mild increase in alkaline phosphatase. A paracetamol overdose was suspected. She was admitted to the ICU and received acetylcysteine. Her transaminase levels decreased over the next 5 days. Swarna R, et al. Accidental acetaminophen overdose in an elderly female.
