PRBPACB When we decided,
five years ago,
to publish a volume of con-
tributions on the German system of codetermination, we felt a need for a presentation of this complex subject from both the European and the American perspective.
Hence we planned
this
publication as a joint u.s. and European undertaking with one of the editors, Jurgen Backhaus, working at Auburn University (Alabama), and the other editor, Hans G. Nutzinger, teaching at the University of Kassel, West Germany. Most of the technical editorial work was done at the Auburn University Publiction Center, and we wish to thank particularly Mrs. Bess Yellen for her continuing assistance. As one of the editors, Jurgen Backhaus,
moved
from
the
United
States
to
the
Rijksuniversiteit
Limburg at Maastricht (The Netherlands), the final editorial work had to be completed at the University of Kassel. Here we would like
to
thank
especially Mr.
Andreas
Beschorner
for
his
in-
valuable text processing work. Also, we would like to thank the following persons from the University of Kassel: Dr. Kornelius Kraft for his valuable assistance in text processing, Mr. Dirk Reh for preparing the index, and Mrs. Kalden for her typing and organizational activities. Naturally, we are indebted to the authors for preparing and revising their contributions to this volume. Last but not least, we wish to thank the Springer Verlag, particularly Dr. Werner A. Muller and Mrs. Bopp, for their assistance and patience during the rather extended production process.
