Foreword

Interconnection has traditionally represented the essence of modern power transmission systems. However, with the introduction of faster devices in electric power systems and further utilization of power networks in wider domains, the issues pertaining to power stability issues have become more complex. The occurrence of low frequency oscillations (LFO) can affect stable and efficient operations of such interconnected power systems. However, the use of wide-area measurement systems (WAMS) in transmission systems can provide more opportunities for dynamic monitoring and control of interconnected power systems. In addition, the flexible and quick control provided by power electronics-based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices can increase the controllability of such interconnected systems.
