INTERNATIONAL UNION OF MATERIALS RESEARCH SOCIETIES

MRS-Korea to Host IUMRS-ICA-2006 in September www.mrs-k.or.kr/ica2006 The International Union of Materials Research Societies International Conference in Asia 2006 (IUMRS-ICA-2006) sponsored by the MRS regional societies in Asia—Chinese-MRS, MRS-India, MRSJapan, MRS-Korea, MRS-Singapore, and MRS-Taiwan—will be held in Jeju, Korea, September 10–14, 2006, and organized by the Materials Research Society of Korea (MRS-K). This is a continuation in the series of meetings among Asian IUMRS adhering bodies; a previous meeting was held in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2004. Since the initial IUMRS-ICA meeting, this conference has become a key place to exchange new ideas in science and technology among Asian researchers and scientists and a forum for presenting new results focused on advanced materials. Individuals actively engaged in materials research and developments are encouraged to attend this meeting. Jeju is an island located about 600 km from Seoul and the most famous resort site in Korea, known for its exotic scenery and subtropical climate. The meeting will include 17 symposia: Silicon Microelectronics: Processing to Packaging; Compound Semiconductor and Related Materials; Electronic Mate-

rials and Processing; Organic and Inorganic Display Materials; Self-Assembling Materials and Processes: From Fundamental Phenomena to Applications; Advanced Ceramic Materials; Magnetic Materials and Applications; Photonics and Optical Materials; Composites and Hybrid Materials; Nanoparticle and Nanostructured Materials; Mechanical Behaviors of Materials; Structural Materials; Energy Conversion and Storage Materials; Hard Coatings, Corrosion, and Wear; Modeling and Characterizations of Materials; Catalysis and Porous Materials; and SolGel Materials. Plenary speakers are S. Iijima (Meijo University, Japan), Min Young Lee (Samsung, Korea), Baicheng Liu (Tsinghua University, China), R.J. Nemanich (North Carolina State University, USA), Yoshio Nishi (Stanford University, USA), and Lian Zhou (NW Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research, China). Other outstanding researchers will present invited talks. The abstract deadline is March 11, 2006. Abstracts should be sent by e-mail to [email protected]. Abstracts should not exceed 200 words (1 page). The presenting author should be indicated by

underlining his or her name and contact information of the presenting author should be provided (name, affiliation, address, e-mail address, phone number, and fax number). Those who wish to publish papers from the conference in Solid State Phenomena are asked to submit manuscripts electronically before April 29, 2006, and to preregister by July 31, 2006. Manuscripts should not exceed four pages in length and should follow the format of Solid State Phenomena. Papers will be published after peer review. The Conference Committee members are Jong-Wan Park (Hanyang University), Bo Young Hur (Gyeongsang National University), Byung Tae Ahn (KAIST), and Hyeongtag Jeon (Hanyang University).
