Levodopa Tardive dyskinesia in elderly patients: 2 case reports After starting treatment with levodopa [dosage not stated] for Parkinson’s disease, a 74-year-old woman and a 65-yearold man developed permanent mandible dyskinesia with forward and lateral movements [duration of treatment before reaction onset not stated], similar to tardive dyskinesia induced by antipsychotics. Their dyskinesia persisted with no variation in aspect and severity during the levodopa challenge. Levodopa was stopped and treatment with a dopamine receptor agonist alone was initiated in the woman, and the man began receiving a combination of low doses of levodopa and a dopamine receptor agonist; 15 days after their treatment was altered, their dyskinesia completely disappeared. Author comment: "These observations suggest that levodopa may sometimes generate prolonged oro-lingualmasticatory movements very similar to what is classically observed with dopamine receptor blocking drugs."
