Ó ASM International 2020
2020 Sep 8–11 Metallographic Techniques ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH During this course, participants receive intensive instruction and assistance in learning the principles of metallography. Manual preparation, automatic preparation, and hands-on activities, such as preparing a variety of hard, soft, ferrous, and nonferrous alloys, are used to demonstrate many metallographic techniques.
Sep 9–11 Protective Coating Specialist—Basic Principles (PCS 1) NACE Training Center, Houston, TX This course introduces both the theoretical and practical aspects of using coatings to control corrosion and the economic benefits of managing them. Common corrosion control coatings are defined and when, how, and where they should be used. Learning objectives include defining corrosion control and the purpose of coatings and linings, identifying the types of coating systems and selecting the appropriate one, recognizing the purpose of surface preparation and identifying errors/omissions, conducting inspection and quality control, and understanding the instruments and tools required.

Sep 14–17 Corrosion ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH Corrosion occurs in all industries from automotive and aerospace to infrastructure, construction, petroleum, power, paper making, food processing, bio-engineering, and pharmaceuticals. Corrosion is costly, dangerous, wasteful, and unsightly. It can be predicted, controlled, and even avoided. This class presents an overview of the eight major corrosion processes and related corrosion monitoring, prediction, and control mechanisms. The principles discussed are applicable to all metals. Emphasis is on practical applications of corrosion technology to industrial corrosion problems.
Sep 14–17 Practical Heat Treating ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH Practical Heat Treating teaches the ‘‘how’’ of heat treating. You will learn the heat treatment process of steel as well as what type of atmosphere is best for furnace operations for the safety of personnel and equipment. In addition, you will be able to recognize heat treating problems and establish quality control procedures. Plant managers, quality control specialists, and engineers alike will be able to benefit from attending this four-day event.
