Ó ASM International 2015
2015 Aug 3–5 Heat Treating for the Non-Heat Treater ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH This course is for the non-heat treater (part designers, material specifiers, purchasing agents, and technicians) who need a basic education in heat treating and need to learn how to ‘‘speak the language.’’ The focus will be on the value added by heat treating (2.0 CEUs).
Aug 10–13 Fractography ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH This course is designed for a broad cross section of failure analysis practitioners. Failure analysis principles, tools, and mechanisms are covered in detail. In addition, the practical aspects and importance of considering the failed part, the material of construction, and the failure circumstances in combination is stressed. Emphasis is placed on learning the macroscopic failure modes and correlation of these observations with microscopic fracture surface features. The salient points are illustrated with case histories. Course attendees are also encouraged to bring case histories to share in an interactive manner (3.0 CEUs).

Aug 10–12 Heat Treatment, Microstructure & Performance of Carbon and Alloy Steels ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH This course will review the phases that form in carbon and alloy steels and the modifications produced in the iron-carbon diagram by alloying and manufacture. Microstructures and the phase transformations by which they are produced in all phases of manufacture, from casting through quench and tempering, will be described and related to mechanical properties and performance, including fracture and potential embrittlement phenomena (2.0 CEUs).
Aug 17–18 Fastener Metallography Techniques and Interpretation Allied High Tech Products, Rancho Dominquez, CA This fast paced course covers proper and efficient sample preparation, interpretation of microstructures of common fastener materials (commercial and aerospace), and imperfections caused by incoming material and manufacturing processes such as heading, heat treating, and thread rolling. Microhardness testing to verify case depth will be discussed. Grain size determination and quantitative measurements are practiced. Participants of this class mentioned that the class helped in passing a quality audit (1.5 CEUs).
Aug 31–Sep 3 Corrosion ASM World Headquarters, Materials Park, OH Corrosion occurs in all industries from automotive and aerospace to infrastructure, construction, petroleum, power, paper making,
