Preface

The 2010 Workshop on Trends in Enterprise Architecture Research (TEAR), held in Delft, The Netherlands, was the fifth one in an increasingly successful series of workshops, previously held in Hong Kong, Switzerland, Australia and Sweden. This year we received 15 papers. After an extensive review process by a distinguished international Program Committee, with each paper receiving at least three reviews, we accepted the 7 papers that appear in these proceedings. Congratulations to the successful authors! The discipline of enterprise architecture is commonly considered to have its birth in an academic article by John Zachman published by the research-oriented IBM Systems Journal. The growth of the discipline, however, took place mainly in the practitioner’s cradle. In recent years, the industrial and governmental interest in enterprise architecture has increased dramatically. Meanwhile, there has been steady academic work in the area, but research on enterprise
