Triamcinolone Ascending hypopigmentation of the forearm following injection: case report A 23-year-old African man presented with wrist pain and stiffness of his right thumb. He was diagnosed with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis and prescribed nonsteroidal antiinflammatories. Following no improvement after 1 month, he received a peritendinous triamcinolone 10mg injection to the first extensor compartment with a further injection 6 weeks later [dosage not stated]. His symptoms completely resolved 4 weeks on; however, depigmentation gradually developed over the anatomical snuffbox and continued to extend towards the cubital fossa [time to reaction onset not stated]. He became distressed to the point where he would only wear long sleeve shirts and gloves, and refused to go to work. The hypopigmentation completely resolved 7 months after the initial injection, and he returned to work. Saour S, et al. Ascending hypopigmentation of the forearm following injection of triamcinolone.
