No response: case report In a retrospective review of 49 patients, who received triamcinolone injection for bursitis between March 2016 and March 2019, a 55-year-old woman was described, who exhibited no response while receiving triamcinolone injection for bursitis. The woman, who had lateral malleolar (LM) bursitis, received two injections of triamcinolone [Kenalog] 1mL (40mg). Triamcinolone solution was prepared in a 5mL syringe, with 40mg of triamcinolone in 1mL composition. The bursal sac was punctured posteroanteriorly using an 18-gauge needle with a 10mL syringe, and the bursal sac fluid was aspirated. Then, 1mL (40mg) of triamcinolone was injected into the bursal sac using a different syringe with the same needle used for aspiration. After triamcinolone injection, a compressive dressing was applied using cohesive elastic bandage for at least 2 weeks. However, despite the second injection, she showed no response to the therapy. Hence, the woman underwent operative excision due to LM bursitis and consequently, her symptoms resolved. Goh TS, et al. Outcome of triamcinolone acetonide injection for lateral malleolar bursitis.
