Voriconazole toxicity and ALT increase: case report In a retrospective study of 596 patients, who underwent allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) between 1 December 2010 and 31 December 2015, a 56-year-old woman was described, who developed voriconazole toxicity and increase in ALT levels during treatment with voriconazole. The woman underwent haploidentical HSCT for acute myelogenous leukaemia. Three months after the transplantation, she developed a persistent ALT increase (maximum ALT value at 671 U/L). This was initially attributed to voriconazole [route, dosage and indication not stated] treatment and liver graft-versus-host disease. She also developed voriconazole toxicity [duration of treatment to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. Ten months after the transplantation, she was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection [aetiology not stated]. The woman died 7 days after HEV diagnosis due to bacterial sepsis and invasive aspergillosis along with ongoing liver failure. Furfaro E, et al.
