Anomalies are with respect to the 1961-90 averaging period. However, anomalies with respect to the 1971-2000 averaging period are available from http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk

Sunshine ranged from close to normal over Nor thern Ireland, Wales, southwest England and southern and eastern Scotland to over 130% of average over parts of East Anglia, northern England and north-west Scotland.

Mean temperatures were above the 1971-2000 normal across the whole UK, ranging from about 1.4 deg C above in south-west England and south Wales to about 2.3 deg C above in East Anglia, south-east England and nor thern Scotland. It was the third warmest April over Scotland and equal third over England, in series from 1914, but not as warm as April 2007 (ranked first). Rainfall ranged from above normal in Northern Ireland and the western fringes of Scotland, Wales and south-west England, to well below normal across much of eastern Scotland, eastern England and East Anglia. Over England and Wales it was the third consecutive month to be markedly drier than average.

1 District values for each element are computed using all available climate stations, excluding rooftop sites for minimum air temperature. The values in the table may not be compatible with other time series (eg. Central England Temperature, England and Wales Rainfall). 2 Highest maximum and lowest minimum air temperatures for each district are determined by calculating 95 percentiles. 3 Raindays are the number of days during which the total precipitation is at least 0.2mm.
