SHHEC ASSIGN Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Score http://www.assign-score.com/ This cardiovascular risk assessment score is derived from the Scottish Heart Health Extended Cohort (SHHEC). It comes from work by Woodward and Tunstall-Pedoe at the Institute of Cardiovascular Research, University of Dundee, Scotland, and looks at risk that may be more applicable to UK residents. The calculator is available for men and women aged 30 to 74 years. It is a “development version” that has “not been accepted as yet for clinical use.” There is a comparison with the Framingham risk score minus the left ventricular hypertrophy data. No registration is required to use the calculator, and there are no advertisements. Total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol are inputted in mmol/L.
ETHRisk http://www.epi.bris.ac.uk/CVDethrisk/ A modified Framingham cardiovascular risk calculator for black and minority ethnic groups in Britain. Led by Dr. Peter Brindle, the authors state that they attempted to design a risk calculator for a population not previously included in the Framingham risk score. The calculator is targeted to individuals aged 35 to 74 years without diabetes or previous history of cardiovascular disease. Ethnic groups include “Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Black Caribbean, Black African, Irish, and General Population.” The site is sponsored by the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol, England. Total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol must be entered in mmol/L. No registration is required, and there are no advertisements.
Simple Guides Cardiovascular Risk Calculator http://www.thesimpleguides.com/calc_cvd.asp This is a commercial website based in Gloucestershire, England, that markets simple “health guide books.” In addition to the cardiovascular risk calculator, the website includes a body mass index calculator (http://www.thesimpleguides.com/calc_bmi.asp). The risk calculator uses an interesting “thermometer” graphic representation of risk. The site is directed to the general public. Registration is optional; you can join an online “health club” and receive additional health promotion materials. The only advertising is for the health books.
SCOPRI Risk Calculators http://www.scopri.ch/ The SCOPRI website was developed by Drs. Romanens and Ackermann of Olten, Switzerland (also see their other websites: Protective Medicine Foundation [http://www.protectivemedicine. org/] and KardioLab [http://www.kardiolab.ch/]). The SCOPRI website provides risk assessment calculators as well as postatherosclerosis imaging test risk calculators. One webpage (http://www. scopri.ch/riskalgorithms.htm) provides simultaneous access to the PROCAM, EU-SCORE, and REYNOLDS risk calculators—a bit complex to use but interesting to see side by side. The user can choose mmol/L or mg/dL for the cholesterol units. Another page on the we
