Spitz nevus: case report A 28-year-old woman developed Spitz nevus following treatment with infliximab for ulcerative colitis. The woman, who had Fitzpatrick skin phototype 2 and ulcerative colitis, referred for a pigmented lesion on the right ear. She had been receiving treatment with infliximab since the last 30 months [route and dosage not stated]. The lesion was noted around six months prior to the current presentation. An examination showed a dark brown macule on the helix with regular borders. Dermoscopy was consistent with amelanocytic lesion, with a global starburst pattern, which was suggestive of spitzoid melanocytic tumour. Reflectance confocal microscopy showed a well-demarcated lesion, with junctional nests and pagetoid infiltration. An histological examination of the lesion confirmed a compound Spitz nevus [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. The woman’s infliximab was continued. She was instructed to follow sun-protective measures. She remained under close clinical follow-up [outcome not stated]. Queiros CS, et al. Spitz nevus and infliximab: association or coincidence?.
