This book results from several years of joint research on the business history of fashion, apparel and luxury industries by the two editors. We benefitted from the support of several institutions, particularly the CARIS Project (Competitive Advantage of Regions and Industries), funded by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A) 23243055, led by Takafumi Kurosawa, professor at Kyoto University, the DS-LAB Project (Practical science approaches for data mining business applications) at Kansai University, supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for Strategic Collaboration between Private Universities, and the University of Neuch^atel (Switzerland). The editors have organized two meetings and gathered numerous scholars from management and business history to discuss the process and challenges of the globalization of the luxury industry since the 1970s.
