Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS): case report A 22-year-old woman developed drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) during treatment with naproxen for mechanical dorsal pain. The woman received naproxen for mechanical dorsal pain [dosage and route not stated]. After 5 days, she developed dyspnoea and a skin eruption. Chest radiography revealed bilateral pleural effusion and multi-lobar consolidations. Laboratory investigations revealed eosinophilia absolute count of 1780 and hypertransaminasaemia, which indicated acute liver failure. Her dyspnoea progressed and a chest CT was performed which revealed pericardial and pleural effusions, peribroncovascular consolidations, diffuse centrilobular nodules and axillary and mediastinal adenomegalies. A diagnosis of eosinophilic pneumonia was performed. The Registry of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions score was 7, which confirmed a definitive diagnosis of DRESS. The woman was treated with systemic steroids. Lung and liver alterations resolved gradually. Guerrero Gomez DA, et al.
