The transverse single-spin asymmetry of charged hadrons (π ± , K ± , p, p¯) produced in proton–nucleus collisions was measured with the FODS-2 setup at the Institute for High Energy Physics (Protvino). The data in question were obtained in the interactions of a 40-GeV polarized proton beam with C and Cu nuclear targets over the range of c.m. angles between 73◦ and 94◦ , the final-state particles being produced in the vicinity of the central region (−0.01 < xF < 0.27 and 0.7 < pT < 3.6 GeV/c). For π + - and K + -meson production, the single-spin asymmetry reaches a considerable value at high pT and small positive values of xF . The analyzing power for the other hadrons—that is, π − , K − , p, and p¯—is compatible with zero in the pT range under study. The dependence of the analyzing power on the target mass number is insignificant.
xF Charged Hadrons Produced in pA Single-Spin Asymmetry of High-ppT , Negative-x Collisions at 40 GeV V. V. Abramov, A. A. Volkov, P. I. Goncharov, A. Yu. Kalinin, A. V. Korablev, Yu. P. Korneev, A. The transverse single-spin asymmetry of charged hadrons (π ± , K ± , p, p¯) produced in proton–nucleus collisions was measured with the FODS-2 setup at the Institute for High Energy Physics (Protvino). The measurements were performed for the interactions of a 40-GeV polarized proton beam with C and Cu nuclear targets over the range of c.m. angles between 95◦ and 112◦ for the case of particle production in the central region (−0.08 < xF < −0.06, 0.7 < pT < 3.4 GeV/c). The analyzing power in question was found to depend insignificantly on the target mass number. The main results of the single-asymmetry measurements at three values of the particle-detection angle are discussed.
Light Scalar Mesons in Experimental Data on the Decay φ → π 0 π 0 γ and ππ Scattering N. N. Achasov and A. V. Kiselev
Data obtained with the KLOE detector (Italy) on the decay φ → π 0 π 0 γ are analyzed together with those on ¯ The data are described theoretically with allowance for the chiral ππ scattering and the reaction ππ → K K. screening of the σ(600) meson. This description provides evidence in favor of the four-quark nature of the σ(600) and f0 (980) mesons.
Experimental Study of Variations in the Counting Rate for Radioactive-Element Beta Decays Yu. A. Baurov, Yu. G. Sobolev, Yu. V. Ryabov, and V. F. Kushniruk
Variations in the beta-decay rate for radioactive elements of half-life about 24 hours and 27 days are found on the basis of prolonged studies with scintillation and Ge(Li) gamma detectors. The significance level of the r
