Increased blood glucose: case report A 23-year-old woman developed increased blood glucose during treatment with isotretinoin for nodulo-cystic acne [route and outcome not stated]. The woman, who had nodulo-cystic acne, presented to the dermatology department. Her medical history was significant for wellcontrolled type 1 diabetes mellitus with insulin. She had been previously treated with conventional treatment [specific drug not stated] for nodulo-cystic acne; however, the treatment proved to be ineffective. Therefore, she started receiving treatment with isotretinoin 20mg once daily. On follow-up 8 weeks later, she reported that within 2 weeks of the initiation of isotretinoin therapy, her glucose levels became erratic. She observed increased blood glucose twice her normal parameters ranging between 14–16 mmol/L. The woman was treated with additional short acting insulin support. After consulting with her diabetic nurse specialist, her basal insulin regime was amended to improve control, while isotretinoin therapy was continued. Connolly A, et al.
