Abstract Aim of this study is to determine the preferences of Computer Information Systems students as regards to knowledge sharing technologies. In this paper, qualitative method is preferred in order to obtain detailed opinions of university students on knowledge sharing and its technologies in the Northern of Cyprus. The study group of the research consists of 69 students who studied at Computer Information Systems department in the fall semester of 2017–2018 academic year. It has been found out that Computer Information System department students generally use knowledge sharing technologies. Students prefer using the opportunities offered by the technology in knowledge sharing process. This finding contributes to future directions on developing strategies to improve knowledge sharing in the classroom by enhancing the classroom environment. This study also discusses the implications of knowledge sharing and web technologies for researchers and educators. Keywords Knowledge management . Knowledge sharing technologies . Higher education

1 Introduction Knowledge management is the process of transporting the correct knowledge to the correct person at the desired time (Frost 2017). Although the definition is not complicated, one has to establish a strong relation with institutional strategy, understand the whereabouts and patterns of correct knowledge, create processes which include organizational functions and ensure that initiatives are adopted and supported by organization members. and sharing of knowledge, and creating and storing new knowledge in the quest for realizing organizational goals. Briefly, knowledge management can be explained as usage and sharing of data and knowledge in decision-making processes. Three types of knowledge management are mentioned in a study: knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing and knowledge utilization (Ghabban et al. 2018). Knowledge management can focus on creating new knowledge or only on sharing, storing and improving knowledge. Knowledge management makes it efficient by accessing the necessary knowledge and resources faster and improves the decision-making process (Al-Kurdi et al. 2020). Universities as producers and distributors of knowledge are an important part of the information supply chain (Zong et al. 2019).
