Preface

Although late preterm infants (born between 340/7 and 366/7 weeks’ gestational age) account for a large proportion (75%) of preterm infants, they have received little attention with respect to developing best practices to care for them. Bernie Schrage is a public health nurse who has been instrumental in my journey in learning about the unique characteristics of late preterm infants and the trials and tribulations their mothers and fathers experience when caring for them in the early days following discharge. Her passion fueled and continues to fuel the desire to educate others about the very special needs of late preterm infants and the importance of educating and supporting mothers and father to enhance their self-efficacy and self-confidence in caring for their very special babies.
